At BAN SURIYA, you can be as lazy or energetic as you wish, either opting to simply relax in the luxury accommodation and tropical beachfront gardens or make use of the extensive in-villa facilities (see Villa Activities)

Sea kayaks and a Hobie catamaran are available for hire 200 metres along the beach at Lipa Lovely Resort (tel: [+66] 7742 3025, www.lipalovely.com). There are a number of dive operations on the island offering day excursions or full PADI courses (see www.kohsamui.org/diving.html for details). Snorkeling, water-skiing and wakeboarding can also be arranged.
Ang Thong National Marine Park
This fascinating group of islands features dramatic limestone massifs; tropical rainforests; the emerald Thale Nai saltwater lake (on Koh Mae Ko); wildlife such as langur monkeys, monitor lizards and ashy drongos; plus beautiful deserted beaches, ideal for snorkeling, picnics, barbecues and water-skiing. The villa manager can arrange for a private speedboat to pick you up from BAN SURIYA’s beachfront and transport you to and from the park for a wonderful day out.
Santiburi Samui Country Club’s ‘on-the-hill’ golf course opened in 2003 and now hosts an Asian PGA tour event. The stunning course, around 30-minutes drive from BAN SURIYA, has breathtaking sea and mountain views. Green fees are about US$100 and caddies, buggies and clubs are available for hire (tel: [+66] 7742 1710, www.santiburi.com).
BAN SURIYA has a dedicated Spa room and excellent local spa therapists, specialising in Thai massage, facials, manicures and pedicures, can be booked by the villa manager.
There are also two outdoor massage sala’s, as well as an internal massage area in the Suriya bedroom.

The Baan Taling Ngam Resort & Spa (formerly Le Royal Meridien) is 10-minutes drive from BAN SURIYA and features three excellent restaurants. The Five Islands Restaurant is five kilometres from BAN SURIYA and serves modern Thai food in an open Thai-style pavilion on the beach. Ideal for a romantic meal (tel: [+66] 7741 5359, www.thefiveislands.com).
Four Seasons Resort, Koh Samui is a 15-minute drive from BAN SURIYA and offers fine Thai and Italian dining at Lan Tania and beach-side fare at Pla Pla (www.fourseasons.com/ kohsamui/dining).
Nathon and Lamai, both 15-minutes drive from BAN SURIYA, are the nearest local towns and good places to find Thai textiles, jewellery and handicrafts.
Chaweng, 35-minutes drive away, is the main resort town in Koh Samui, featuring a wide selection of shops as well as restaurants and nightlife.
